Nighthawks lose in crossovers at City of Lakes Tournament

DARTMOUTH – After strong round robin play in the City of Lakes Tournament, the Northumberland Nighthawks boys hockey team lost in the crossover round to Citadel High School, 4-2. Dallas MacDonald and Kyle Sutherland scored the Nighthawk goals in the crossover.

Opening the Tournament, the Northumberland Nighthawks had a 5-4 victory over the Barrington Barrons.

Going into the third the Nighthawks were down 4-0, but Evan Ferguson sparked the Nighthawk offence with the first goal assisted by Jaret Watt.

Tyler Ferguson scored the second goal assisted by Cody Heighton. Dallas MacDonald scored the next two goals with assists going to Cody Heighton and Colby Fraser.

Josh Langille scored the game-winning goal with assists to by Brett Connors. 

In their second game the Nighthawks took on Auburn Drive Eagles and won 4-1. Scoring for the Nighthawks were Rainer MacKay (2), Colby Fraser and Luke Swanwick. Assists were attributed to: Ben Morrissey, Dallas MacDonald, Evan Ferguson and Noah Chisholm. 

Their third game ended in a 1-1 tie against J.L. Ilsley, locking up their spot in the crossovers. Morrissey scored the lone goal assisted by Noah Chisholm. 

After the tournament the Nighthawks were in Truro on Sunday to play the CEC Cougars. Northumberland lost 2-1 with Morrissey scoring the lone goal. This weekend, Jan. 11-13, the Northumberland boys hockey team are hosting the 7th Annual Danny Dorrington Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Westville Rink. 

Games start with local teams at 9:00 a.m. (North Nova vs. Dartmouth) and 10:45 a.m. (Northumberland vs. J.L. Ilsley).
