PICTOU COUNTY – The peewee AA Crushers split a home-and-home with the West Hants Warriors on the weekend. On Saturday the Crushers rode the strong goaltending of Nick Laffin to a 3-1 win. Kade Mason led the offence with two power play goals with Matt Martin getting the single. Pitching in with assists were: Alex MacKinnon, Matt Munroe and Zach Houston.
On Sunday the bounces were against the Crushers as they lost a 4-3 thriller to the Warriors. The revamped power play unit stuck two more times with Houston and Logan MacKay scoring for the Crushers.
Martin scored the “goal of the year” with a great individual effort as he broke in 1-on-3 and made all the Warrior defenders look silly, depositing a beautiful backhand under the crossbar. Adding assists for the Crushers were Mason with a pair and singles going to MacKay and Houston.
This weekend the Crushers are on a three-game road trip to the Valley as they play Truro and Western Valley on Saturday. On Sunday they play Western Valley again.
