WESTVILLE – There were two close games played on Wednesday night at the Westville Miners Sports Centre. The first game saw the Acropole Blues and the Bestway Panthers finish with 3-3 tie. Alan Smith scored his second goal late in the game to salvage the tie, with Ken Gordon had the other for the Blues.

“I thought this was Oldtimer's hockey, I mean these guys are flying out there," said rookie forward Victor Melanson, dripping from sweat after the hard fought game.

Bestway's goals came from Ricky Wright, Chris MacDonald and Luke Austin.

"Luke and Chris are in the same profession…they play well and are very partial to each other," said Kevin MacKenzie.

The second game saw Docs Demons edge Highland Nissan 9-7 in a see-saw battle that went to the final buzzer. Scott MacKinnon led the way for the Demons with the hat trick, while brother Dave MacKinnon and Don Buchanan had two each, Edwin Fraser and Mark MacDonald picked up lone goals.

Scoring four goals in the losing cause was Jason Sample, with singles coming from Brian Gratto, Billy Kontuk and Mike MacLean.

Veteran centre Robbie MacNaughton was asked how many years he has left in the league.

"You know...there are a few players in this league that I remember tying their skates in novice when they played on the same teams with my sons....so maybe I'll hang around until I have to get them to tie mine."

League play resumes on Sunday night with the first game at 7:30 p.m.
