North Nova eliminated in crossovers

WESTVILLE – The North Nova Gryphons boys hockey team narrowly missed a spot in Sunday's final of the 7th Annual Danny Dorrington Memorial Tournament in Westville when they were defeated in the crossover game 5-4 by the Dalbrae Dragons. 

The Gryphons pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and thought they had tied the game at the buzzer, but the goal was disallowed. Scoring for the Gryphons were Allister Mason (2), Dylan Johnstone, and Sam Cameron. The player of the game was Mason. 

The Gryphons reached the crossover game on the strength of two wins and a tie in the tournament. North Nova opened the tournament on Friday with a 4-0 victory against the Dartmouth High Spartans. Joel MacLean had the shutout in goal. Mason, Craig Murray, Kyle Duff and Cameron scored for the Gryphons. The player of the game was Cameron. 

On Friday evening, the Gryphons faced the SAERC Saints, winning 7-2. Goal scorers for NNEC were Cameron (2), Murray, Tommy Hayman, Ryan Washburn, Mason, and Tyler Chisholm. The player of the game was Mason. 

Saturday morning the NNEC squad faced Kings Edgehill School and came away with a 2-2 tie. Cameron and Murray scored the goals. Goaltender Joel MacLean earned the player of the game award. 

Major award winners for the tournament for NNEC were: Mason (top defence) and the goaltending tandem of MacLean and Logan Boudreau (top goalies). 

The Gryphons get back to regular league action next weekend when they host the Amherst Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the John Brother MacDonald Stadium. They then travel to Truro on Sunday to take on the CEC Cougars at the Colchester Legion Stadium at 7 p.m.
