MONCTON – The Pictou County female midget Subway Selects recently took part in the annual DQ Invitational Tournament in Moncton, losing 1-0 in the semifinal to the SNB Rockets in overtime.
The Selects went 2-0-1 and allowed only one goal against in round-robin play.
On Friday, the Selects went up against Pownal PEI team, winning 5-0 to kick off the tournament. Scoring for the Selects were: Caitlyn Sandluck, MacKenzie Bell, Isobel DeMont, Rachel Brown and Shauna Wright. Lindsay Feit, Tori MacCuish, Lindsay Cheek, Jessie McIntyre and Sarah Munroe were attributed with assists. DeMont was named the game MVP.
On Saturday, the Selects played to a 1-1 tie against the SNB Rockets. DeMont had the lone goal with Cheek picking up the assist. Cassidy Dunbar played a stellar game between the pipes and picked up game MVP.
Saturday afternoon the Selects took on North River, P.E.I. and shut down the island team with a 3-0 win. Scoring for the Selects were: Shauna Wright (2) and DeMont. Brown picked up the lone assist. Wright was selected as game MVP.
In Sunday’s semifinal loss in overtime against the SNB Rockets, Jessie McIntyre was named the game MVP.
The Pictou County midget Subway Selects continue league play with an upcoming home-and-home series against the Antigonish Bulldogs this weekend, with their home game Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Trenton Arena.
