The Brookfield Elks defeated the Pictou County Scotians 4-1 last night in junior B hockey action. With the win the Elks taking over sole possession of 2nd place and climb to within two points of the Fred Fox Division leader Sackville Blazers. With the loss the Scotians remain in third place, in the Sid Rowe Division, and just a single point behind 2nd place Strait Pirates.
Geoff Burke paced the Elks with a pair of tallies with Shane Piercey and Zach Bates notching single markers for Brookfield. James Shapleigh and Drew McNutt each picked up a pair of assists.
Lucas Eshelman, with his 19th goal of the season, spoiled Spencer Scott’s bid for his 2nd shutout of the season with just over six minutes to play in the final period.
Scott picked up his 15th win of the year while Mitch Donlevy took the loss.
The Elks led 2-0 after one; 4-0 after two with the Scotians scoring the only goal of the third period.
Final shots favoured the Elks 44-31.
