Athletics Nova Scotia held its Indoor Open at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax this past weekend.
Several athletes from Pictou County participated and many placed in the top 10. Over 300 athletes participated in the event ranging from 12 years old to university level.
In the male division, local athlete Devon Martell in his first year competing for Saint Francis Xavier University, placed third in the 60m hurdles, the high jump, the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.
Kaelen Schmidt from Pictou County Athletics placed fourth in the triple jump and participated in the 60m race.
Peter Corbin from PCA placed sixth in the 1000m and second in both the 1200m and 2000m races.
Caleb Archibald placed fourth in the 1200m and third in the 2000m race. Scott Langille ran the 300m and 600m races and Aidan Balignasay competed in the 3000m race.
In the female division, Meryl MacDougall, competing for Dalhousie University, placed first in the 60m race. Heather Beaton placed third in the 300m race. Naomi Zentner placed fourth in the 2000m race and 10th in the 1500m. Jessica Zentner placed eighth in the 1500m race.
Pictou County Athletics trains through the winter at the North Nova Education Centre gym and also offers pool workouts and weight training.
