PICTOU COUNTY – The Pictou County Bantam AA Subway Selects picked up a pair of wins on the road and at home this weekend.

In Cole Harbour on Saturday, the girls defeated the Cole Harbour Wings 6-0, despite having a short bench with only 10 skaters.

Annika Mason opened the scoring for the Selects with an unassisted shot from the point that went over the head of the Wings’ goalie. Madelyn Bourque then scored a natural hat-trick – the first an on-ice shot, the second a tip-in on a shot from Hannah Richards, and the third a wrist shot while the Wings’ goalie was screened. All three goals were scored on the power play.

Kaila Reid and Lena MacDonald rounded out the scoring for the Selects, with MacDonald’s goal also on the power play. Assists were marked by MacKenzie Reid, Kaila Reid, Emilly MacDonald and Bourque. The game ended with a penalty-filled third period, with both teams racking up a game total of 102 minutes – 48 for Pictou County and 54 for Cole Harbour.

On Sunday at the Hector Arena, the Selects played a strong game, resulting in a 4-0 win over the TASA Ducks. Kaila Reid banged in a rebound to put the Selects on the board, assisted by MacKenzie Reid and Bourque. The second goal was scored by Meagan Stewart with a tip-in from Richards’ shot from the point. MacDonald then scored twice to seal the win. Assists were marked by Katelyn Dunn with two and Amanda Dunning and Stewart with one each.

Goaltender Brittany Duff got the shut-outs in both games.
