WESTVILLE - The Acropole Blues and Doc's Demons played to a 4-4 tie on Wednesday night due to the strong play of opposing goalies Gordon Morris and Robbie Campbell.
"I have to give a lot of credit to my defence and back checking forwards tonight as I only had to deal with one shot at a time as they cleared all rebounds and kept the front of the net free of the screening opposition," said Campbell.
Scoring for Acropole were Ken Gordon JR and John Behie with two goals each, while Docs got goals from Don Buchanan, Earl Carlson, Edwin Fraser and Dave MacKinnon.
Dripping from sweat and obviously tired from the barrage of shots he faced during the game, Doc's goalie Gordon Morris said, “the shot clock showed 41 to 44, but it felt like there were a lot more. The Blue's took a lot of shots 'top shelf’ where Grandma Morris used to hide the cookies' but nobody was getting up there tonight. "
The second game of the night saw the Bestway Panthers pound Highland Nissan 10-3. Leading the charge for the Panthers were Jerry Austin (3), Chris Goyette (2), Luke Austin (2), Ricky Wright (2) and Alan Leck (1). Replying for the Habs were Delbert Brown, Jason Sample and Brian Gratto.
Highland's 'franchise player' and leading scorer Jason Sample, had a particular bad night admitting, "although I scored once, I had three breakaways and never got a shot on net.”
“I never thought that could be possible. It's good to get those games out of the way. "
League resumes on Sunday night starting at 7:30.
