PORT HAWKESBURY – In the end, the battle of Manitoba saw Team Stoughton come out on top.
After five days of stiff competition that featured 18 of the world’s best curling teams, Winnipeg’s Team Stoughton was crowned champion of the Grand Slam of Curling’s third event of the 2012-13 season, The National.
Team Stoughton beat out fellow Winnipeg native Team McEwen in an exciting 8-2 final, finishing the event with an overall record of 6-2.
"Our guys pulled it out today. After losing the first two games of the tournament we were able to run the table to win it all," said skip Jeff Stoughton. “It’s fantastic, to be out here and beat the best in the world. It’s a good feeling.”
With one event remaining – The Players’ Championship in Toronto, April 16-21 – Team Stoughton and Team McEwen are now among the leaders of teams eligible to split an additional $100,000 purse as one of the top three men’s teams competing in the 2012-13 Grand Slam of Curling season. The Rogers Masters winner Team Koe remains the overall points leader.
