PICTOU COUNTY - The Pictou County bantam AA Subway Selects played three games this weekend, resulting in three victories.
The girls travelled to Bedford on Friday night, picking up a 4-0 win with two goals by Kaitlyn Pentz, one from Meagan Stewart and an unassisted goal by Annika Mason. Emilly MacDonald and MacKenzie Reid each got two assists, while Madelyn Bourque picked up one. Brittany Duff recorded the shutout.
The Selects then played a home-and-home series with the Valley Wild. On Saturday in Middleton, the local squad downed their opponents 8-0. Katelyn Dunn opened the scoring in the first period with a slap shot that hit the back bar, assisted by Mason. Madelyn Bourque followed up with a short handed, unassisted breakaway goal. In the second period, the Selects scored four times. Kaila Reid put the puck into the net after a shot from the point by Pentz missed the mark. She scored her second of the period assisted by Dunn and Brittany Chisholm. Dunn also found the twine for her second goal of the game, along with one from Emilly MacDonald. Mason scored the seventh goal unassisted on a slap shot from the blue line in the third period, and MacDonald finished up the scoring with her second goal on a power play, assisted by Dunn and Meagan Stewart. Other assists were marked by Pentz with three, and Amanda Dunning with one.
Goaltender Brittany Duff’s five-game shutout streak was ended with a lone goal by the Valley Wild team on Sunday in an 8-1 win for Pictou County at the Hector Arena in Pictou. MacKenzie Reid was the first to put a mark on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal in the first period, followed up by a slap shot goal from the point by Amanda Dunning. All eight goals were scored by different players, with Brittany Chisholm, Meagan Stewart, Kaila Reid, Mason, Emilly MacDonald and Katelyn Dunn rounding out the scoring. Assists were credited to MacDonald with three, and singles by Dunn, Kaila Reid, MacKenzie Reid, Madelyn Bourque, Pentz and Chisholm.
