PICTOU COUNTY – On Sunday, the Anchor Motor peewee AA Crushers traveled to Kingston to play the Yarmouth Mariners for two games.
The teams tied 3-3 the first game, with the Crushers winning 3-1 in the second game. In the first game the long bus ride did not seem to affect the Crushers, as they stormed out to a 2-0 lead on two goals by Joe McCarron. Yarmouth then took control and outplayed the Crushers for the rest of the game.
Incredible goaltending by Marc Lochead preserved the tie, which included two game-saving stops in the last 30 seconds of the game. Scoring the other goal for the Crushers was Kade Mason. Robbie Tetreault picked up two assists, with singles going to Cameron MacCallum, Wayne Denny, Matt Munroe and Spencer Murray.
In the second game, Matt Martin was on a mission potting two goals. Mason picked up his second goal of the day, with assists going to Denny with a pair, and Munroe with a single.
Nick Laffin was tested in the net and was solid when he needed to be. This Saturday, the Crushers play the Antigonish Bulldogs twice.
Both games are at home, with the first game going at 1:00 p.m. in Westville and the second game beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Trenton.
