PICTOU - Active Pictou County is coordinating a free four-week session at the Hector Arena in Pictou in February. The program begins on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for four weeks.

Since the fall, the set of 10 sledges have visited three other arenas and have been used high school classes to introduce the sport of sledge hockey to Pictou County residents. Sledge hockey is not only for people with physical disabilities – anyone can give it a try.

There is no cost for participation, but players are asked to bring a helmet, warm clothes and gloves. Elbow pads, neck guard and shin pads can be worn, but are not required for this introductory session. The recommended age for participants is 13-years-old and above, based on the sizes of the sledges which fit players weighing 100 lbs and over, but everyone invited to try or just watch.

Those interested in participating either as a player or a coach are asked to contact coordinator@activepictoucounty.ca.
