WESTVILLE – With three games left before the three game round-robin playoff format begins, all the teams are taking stock of what their team needs, as far as who is healthy, work commitments or even baby sitters in the Westville Gentlemen’s Hockey League.
"I mean, if one of our guys is out of the lineup due to an injury, why can't he watch his teammates children for a couple of hours or if somebody has to work,” said Panthers forward Dave Sinnis. “I have no problem going to the employer and seeing what I can do to get him off for the game. We have to be there for each other."
In the first game of the night on Wednesday, the Bestway Panthers shared the scoring and defeated the Acropole Blues 8-3.
Two goals came from Chris MacDonald, while singles came from Chris Goyette, Jerry Austin, Luke Austin, Lou Smith, Ricky Wright and Alan Leck.
Picking up goals in the losing cause were Mark Bannerman, Steve Sutherland and John Behie.
The second game of the night saw the Nissan Habs get back in the win column as they beat Doc's by a score of 7-4.
Habs utility player Delbert Brown moved back to defence and opened a space on the 'big line' for red-hot Joe Reim. Jason Sample (2), Reim (2) and Rob MacNaughton (1) combined for five goals, while Bernie Murphy and Brian Gratto scored one each. Reim said his line had good chemistry Wednesday night, "I even heard those 'voices' that Jason was talking about, weird."
Doc's goal scorers were Dave MacKinnon, Johny Burke, Kevin Scott and Mark MacDonald.
League action resumes on Feb. 6 after the Super Bowl break.
