Peewee A Selects finish third in Antigonish

ANTIGONISH - The Pictou County peewee A Subway Selects came away with third place during the Credit Union Female Hockey Challenge in Antigonish this past weekend.  

The Subway Selects defeated the Antigonish Bulldogs Friday 7-1. Goal scorers were Megan MacCarthy, Kylie MacKenzie and Shaylyn Bona, while Carly Smith and Emma Martin had two each. Player of the game went to Brody Paul.

Later on Friday, the peewee A girls defeated the Sackville Flyers 4-1. Singles were scored by Smith, MacKenzie, Thea Waller and Ellen Coffin. Player of the game went to Lauren Hicks.  

Saturday's game against the Halifax Hawks ended in a 1-1 tie. MacCarthy got the only goal for the Subway Selects and was named player of the game.

The peewee A girls made it to crossovers Sunday morning against the Truro Cyclones. The first period remained scoreless, but the Cyclones netted one from the blue line to get on the scoreboard in the second. The final score was a 4-0 loss for the Subway Selects with goalie Victoria Dunn named player of the game.

The peewee girls start their playoff season against the Glace Bay Miners with back-to-back games this coming weekend.
