PICTOU COUNTY - The Pictou County bantam AA Subway Selects clinched top spot in regular season play in the South Conference Female Hockey Federation with a win over the Halifax Hawks on Saturday.

The Selects and the Hawks were tied for first place going into Saturday’s match up, with a 2-0 win for Pictou County pushing them ahead.

After a scoreless first period, halfway through the second Brittany Chisholm made a drop-pass to Emilly MacDonald, who fired it low on the glove side past the Halifax goaltender to put Pictou County on the scoreboard.

Late in the second period, defenceman Hannah Richards let go a low blast from the point, which was saved by the Halifax goalie, and the rebound buried by MacKenzie Reid for the Selects’ second goal.

A strong game in nets by goaltender Brittany Duff earned her the shutout.
