WESTVILLE – There was only one game played on Sunday night at the Westville Miners Sports Centre due to the snowstorm over the weekend.

With first place of the regular season on the line, Doc's Demons and Highland Nissan battled back-and-forth all night, ending in a 6-6 tie that gave the Habs bragging rights and first place going into the round-robin playoffs.

Picking up two goals for the Nissan crew was Jason Sample and adding singles were Blaine Murray, Joe Reim, Brian Gratto and Mike Lowe.

"We know that it's a whole new season when playoffs come around," Mike Lowe said after the hard fought match. "But holy jeepers it's nice to sit back and have a Gatorade and reflect on all our hard work that we put into this season. As oldtimers, we still have that 'competitive desire' to win, deep down in our bellies."

Scoring for the Demons were Edwin Fraser, Earl Carlson, Jerry Frank, Paul Fougere, Johnny Burke and last minute call up Brian Haines.

"It was nice to have a ‘cup of coffee’ up there," said Haines said after the drive home. "They have a really good league out there and I hope they weren't mad when I did the 'Yakupov Slide' after I scored."

The final game of the regular season starts at 7:30 on Wednesday night.
