NEW GLASGOW - The Rob McCall Memorial Competition, which hosted over 400 skaters from the Maritimes and a few from Ontario, had tough competition with the local Mariposa Skating Centre. They came home with 10 medals (five gold, two silver, two bronze and three 4th place).

Gold medals were won by Brooke Pennington, Lior Goldchtaub, Jillian Matlock, Brandon Bent and Hana Marmura. Silver medals went to Mallory Matlock and Stacey Wallace, while bronze was awarded to Sarah Higdon and Georgia Murray. Maya Goldchtaub, Megan Matlock and Carlee Myette finished fourth in their events. The club also had some of these skaters placing high in their short or long programs or both.

Marmura was first in both short and long, Bent first in both, Wallace was second in her short and Myette moved from 14th in her short to second in her long, placing fourth overall.

The top six skaters in pre-novice move on to Skate Atlantica and Mariposa took three of those spots for pre-novice women (Marmura, Wallace and Myette). Bent will attend for pre-novice men.

The skaters have the more junior group also getting ready for Starskate (junior provincials) in Port Hawkesbury, March 1-3. Also coming up is their annual ice show March 6 at JBM, with the theme “Music Through The Ages.” All club skaters will be performing in it, including the canskaters, Jumpstart skaters and junior and senior competitors.
