PICTOU COUNTY - This past weekend the atom AAA Crushers had a home-and-home series against the undefeated Acadia Axemen. On Saturday in Canning the Axeman scored two goals in the first, one goal in the second and were held scoreless in the third due to the tough defensive play of Cole Green, Scott Long and Jansen Langille.

The Crushers had some unlucky bounces and the Axemen won 3-0. Brayden Leblanc was solid between the pipes.

On Sunday, the Axemen opened the scoring, but the Crushers answered back with a goal by Nole Chapman assisted by Blake Kontuk and Raymond Chisholm. The Axemen had a 2-1 lead after one.

In the second period the Crushers shut down the Acadia offense because of tough fore checking and back checking by KJ Emery with Kyle Reim, Brychen MaDonald and Jayden Hatchard keeping the play deep in the Axemen zone. The second period saw Connor MacLeod score two goals with Kontuk, Chisholm, Colin MacGillvray and Ryan Alexander picking assists giving the Crushers a 3-2 lead going into the third.

The Axemen scored early in the third, tying the game 3-3. The game would end tied. Cody MacDougall was in goal for the Crushers. The Crushers are battling to maintain 2nd place in the Nova Scotia Atom AAA Mainland League with only four games remaining of the regular season.

This Thursday they play the Antigonish Bulldogs in Trenton at 6:30 p.m. and travel to Lunenburg on Sunday to face the South Shore Sharks.
