PICTOU COUNTY – The Pictou County GMF peewee A Crushers had a busy weekend of playoff hockey after two previous storm weekends.
On Friday night, the Crushers travelled to the Millennium Centre to take on the Antigonish Bulldogs. The Crushers came back from a three-goal deficit to tie the game 6-6 late in the third. Ben MacDonald scored his second goal with 12.6 seconds remaining to tie it for the Crushers. Affiliate players Luc and Brett Claveau had one apiece. Clark Robertson had one goal and one assist. Angus Roy had one goal. Single assists went to Munro MacKay, Ian MacDonald and Isaac MacDonald. Luc Claveau also had two assists. Drew Murphy was in goal for the Crushers.
The Bulldogs came to the Wellness Centre on Saturday but were defeated by the Crushers by a score of 6-2. Leading the Crushers was Munro Mackay with a hat-trick. Ian MacDonald had a pair of goals, while Carson Ripoll had a goal and an assist. Isaac MacDonald had three assists while Cairan Boone and Riley Sheehan had one a piece. Tyler Watters was the netminder for the Crushers.
Sunday morning saw the Cumberland County Ramblers come to town for the final playoff matchup between these teams. The end result was the Crushers defeating the Ramblers handily by a score of 7-4 in the Trenton Arena. Munro Mackay once again led the Crushers with three goals and one assist. Isaac MacDonald had two goals and two assists. Carson Ripoll had one goal, one assist while Ben MacDonald had a single goal. Assists also went to Ian MacDonald and Clark Robertson.
The Crushers will now face the Brookfield Elks and two Cape Breton teams in the next round of provincial playdowns.
