PICTOU COUNTY - The Pictou County Peewee AA Selects were victorious in the first game in their playoff series against the Colchester Cyclones, winning 2-0.

After a lacklustre, scoreless first period, the Selects turned on the jets in the second. They were able to take away time and space from the Colchester squad who clearly had the momentum through much of the opening frame. Brianna Francis opened the scoring with five minutes to go in the second period with a power play marker. Sophia Wornell blasted a shot from the point through traffic where Francis picked up the rebound and pounded it home.

Pictou County was strong through much of the third as well; creating a number of good scoring chances and with just under three minutes to play, got a second power play marker. Camryn Halliday carried the puck in over the offensive blue line and fed a nice pass back to a trailing Jenna Reid.

Reid made no mistake in ripping a hard wrist shot to the top corner to seal the win. Paige MacDonald also picked up an assist on the play. Jenna Landry was solid in goal while picking up the shutout for the Selects. The second game is scheduled for next Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Debert.

On Sunday the Subways travelled to Port Hood for an exhibition match against the Cape Breton West Islanders. The Selects won handily by a score of 4-1.

Lindsay MacDonald led the way with two goals while singles went to Sarah MacNeil and Eva Wornell. Leigha MacDonald took the win between the pipes.
