PICTOU COUNTY - The Pictou County Minor Hockey Association and the Weeks junior A Crushers plan to celebrate the 2012-13 hockey season at the Crushers last regular season home game on March 7 at 7 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

The pre-game ceremony will acknowledge a player and coach from Pictou County Minor Hockey, along with a tribute to the graduating junior A Crushers – Corey Bennett, Jordan Moore, Devan Gunn, Cody Squires and Andrew Darrigo.

All minor Hockey players from Pictou County who wear their team jersey will be granted free admission to the game along with their coaches.

Representatives of the Westville novice team will play during the first intermission. During the second intermission lucky contestants will have the opportunity to play Shoot to Win for a 2013 Mazda, sponsored by Target Mazda.

“This is a great opportunity to thank all of our volunteer coaches throughout Pictou County,” said John Coffin, vice president of PCMHA. “It is their commitment and dedication that allows us to make hockey available for over 1200 local kids.”

“This is a great opportunity for our two organizations to have a night together and share in the highlights of the 2012-13 hockey season”, said Wade Taylor, president of the Weeks Hockey Organization. “We are looking for a full house to come and recognize the efforts of our organizations and say a big thank you to our volunteers.”

General manager and head coach Jason Malone shared Coffin and Taylor’s sentiment.

“We wanted to make this Thursday a minor hockey night,” he said. “It will truly be a special night for the five young men, who will take part in their final regular season game as a Crusher. We felt it would be appropriate to offer an invite to Pictou County minor hockey players, parents and coaches. Hopefully there will be a few future Crushers in the crowd.”

The Weeks Crushers begin their playoffs starting March 11 in Bridgewater against the Lumberjacks, returning for Game 2 at the Pictou County Wellness Centre on Wednesday March 13 at 7 p.m. Game 3 (if necessary) will be played on March 14 at the Wellness Centre.

Advance tickets can be purchased by phoning 485-7326 or at Big Al’s Convenience, Woody’s Variety or the Tartan Blade Barbershop.
