Atom AAA Crushers wrap up regular season

PICTOU COUNTY - The Atom AAA Crushers wrapped up their season this weekend at the N.S. Mainland League Tournament held in Kingston.

In their first game they came out on the losing end against the league leading Acadia Axemen.

The lone goal was scored by Blake Kontuk in the second period. Cody MacDougall was between the pipes. Colin MacGillivray was the game MVP. Game two saw the Crushers battle the Truro Bearcats, which ended in a 4-4 tie. Scoring for the local squad was Brycen MacDonald (2) and Connor MacLeod (2) with Raymond Chisholm, KJ Emery, Ryan Alexander, Jayden Hatchard,  Kontuk and MacLeod picking up assists. Brayden LeBlanc was solid in net and earned MVP honours.

Game three saw the Crushers defeat the Antigonish Bulldogs 9-4. Kontuk lead the scoring with a hat-trick, Emery had a pair, with singles to Nole Chapman, Raymond Chisholm, MacDonald and MacLeod. Picking up assists were MacLeod (3), Emery (2), Kontuk (2), Chisholm (2), Chapman, Kyle Reim, and Cole Green with singles. Cody MacDougall earned the win. KJ Emery received game MVP.

In their final round-robin game of the tournament the Crushers played the Western Valley Spartans and earned a 4-1 victory. Scoring for Pictou County were Colin MacGillivray, Alexander, MacLeod and Reim. Scott Long, Jansen Langille, MacDonald, Hatchard, Kontuk and MacLeod picked up assists. LeBlanc picked up the win in goal. MacLeod was named game MVP.

With a 2-1-1 record the Crushers moved on to the crossover match against the Acadia Axemen, who went undefeated in regular season and tournament play. The Crushers fought hard but lost 4-1. Kontuk scored the lone goal.

Cody MacDougall was the goalie and received game MVP.
