NEW GLASGOW - The New Glasgow Junior High School Lady Panthers capped a strong 2012-2013 season by winning the Northumberland Region girls A basketball championship Tuesday evening.

The Panthers defeated Truro Junior High 43-28 in the semifinal. Shalena Floyd had 15 points in the win with Riley Sood adding 12. Christena Sava and Caitrin Skelton added four points apiece.

In the final the Panthers defeated the favored Central Colchester Junior High Bears 44-39, who defeated Springhill in the other semifinal.

The Panthers were lead by Floyd's 22 points. Katelyn Biron and Riley Sood chipped in with seven and five points respectively. The Panthers played excellent defence in the championship game and defeated the Bears for the first time in four attempts this season.
