WESTVILLE - On Wednesday night at the Westville Miners Sports Centre the Blacks Hawks edged the Acropole Blues 4-3 in a thriller to win the best-of-three playoff series.
In an end-to-end and penalty filled game, there were two Hawk players that took centre stage.
Goalie Clint Snell, who turned aside 36 of 39 shots, made numerous point blank saves in the dying minutes of the game and forward Ricky Wright, who completed his hat-trick on the winning goal with only four minutes left in the game. Colin MacKenzie was the other goal scorer for the Black Hawks.
"We did it,” player/sponsor Tony Vanden Eyden said after raising the championship trophy. “We had a short bench due to injuries and spring vacations, but the boys got it done. I'm so proud of them I think I'll give them all a TV."
Scoring for the Blues were Dave Steele, Phillip Bell and Jody Hamper.
"We gave it our best shot,” Hamper said. "It was a close final and it's time to hang ‘em up for another year."

Doug, maybe you should lighten up on the gentlemen hockey players having fun on the ice and in the media.A lot of these guys donate their time and hockey experience to our minor hockey programs through out Pictou County.Even the kids are picking up the paper to see if the coach or Dad scored. I think Dads are very important in life......get off the couch Doug and join us in life.p
