TRURO - In front of 1,508 fans the Pictou County Weeks Crushers did exactly what they expected to do against the Truro Bearcats, upset the top seeded team, winning 3-1 to open the Eastlink Division semifinal series.
Evan Carmody opened the scoring for the Crushers just 1:39 into the game, the lone goal of the period.
In the second, Nick Parker scored his first of two goals at 1:24. The Bearcats bounced back, scoring their only goal of the game at the 10:53 mark by Zack Evans-Renaud. Parker padded the Crushers lead less than a minute into the final frame on the power play, scoring the final goal of the game.
Brandon Thibeau picked up the win in goal with 22 saves, while Shayne Campbell made 19 saves in the losing cause.
Pictou County went 1-for-5 on the power play, while holding the Bearcats scoreless on all three penalty kills. Game 2 is Tuesday night at the Wellness Centre at 7 p.m.
