Led by coaches Gerald Green, Ron Turnbull, Charles Maxner, Steve Denny, and Troy MacDonald, The Pictou County Crushers Atom AA, boys won silver at the provincials, hosted by Acadia Axemen, in Kentville on the weekend.

The team’s successs is proof that setting  goals and working toward them on a weekly basis will get results. The team chose a goal “qualifying for provincials” early in the season, and were well aware that it had been years since a Pictou County rep team had qualified.   Not only did the team reach their team goal, they went home with the silver.  At the awards ceremony, three members of The Pictou County Crusher Atom AA  team were chosen as all-star players in their perspective positions, selected on a provincial level.

They opened the tournament with a game against Halifax which they lost 2-1. Ryan Green scored for Pictou County assisted by Thomas Devine and Lucas Fraser. Fraser was also named player of the game.

In Game 2, the Crushers defeated TASA 3-2. Goals were scored by Ethan MacDonald, Cal Maxner and Devine with assists from Ben MacGillivray, MacLean Tobin, Braydon Killen, Evan Shea and Green. Shea was named player of the game.

In Game 3, the Crushers defeated Acadia 2-1. Scoring for the Pictou County team was Kaleb Clarke and Green. Assists were scored by Braydon Killen, Lucas Fraser, Devine and Kaleb Clarke. Vaughn MacEachern was named player of the game.

In game four Truro defeated Pictou County 3-0. Tyler Matchem was named player of the game.

The Crushers then advanced to final due to a tie-breaker system. There were two teams with 2-2 records but in the head-to-head game Pictou defeated TASA.

In Game 5 Halifax defeated the Crushers 8-1. Scoring for Pictou County was Ethan MacDonald who was also named player of the game.

Sport Fan, sounds like someone is jealous, I take it you never helped to volunteer coach in any aspect? These coaches volunteer which means they do not get paid. Maybe you should pay them a compliment for doing that at least. And what is so wrong with setting a goal in trying to make it to provincials? I really don't understand what you are trying to say about hosting these tournaments to bring in money for the local economy, they did host a year end tournament which saw half of the teams staying at local hotels for the weekend. Congrats to the boys, coaches, parents and everyone involved, you should all be proud.

Congrats to all these kids who worked hard all season to reach the silver medal at Provincials. I will not however congradulate the coaches on reaching "their goal" of "qualifying for provincials as it has been years since a rep team qualified." Are you kidding me,there is no room in hockey to set that goal for kids. Putting apps in to host provincials takes place every year and someone needs to host. Think about the positives it brings to our local business when we host tournaments. And yes, teams that have hosted have placed in semi finals and finals at provincials, whether they qualified or hosted. What a negative spin to put on our rep teams coaches, shame on you. I simply say congrats team for a season of hard work and dedication. Win or lose in end ,gold or silver,2nd or 5th...I hope you all had a great season. Pick postive goal next year coaches for kids and community as a whole and best wishes for another successful season. Again, congrats on silver kids at such a big event.
