A 16-year-old Bedford hockey prospect has died after collapsing during a practice with the Bathurst Titan.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has identified the player as Jordan Boyd, who was taken by the team in the fourth round of June’s league draft. According to the release, Boyd was skating during an individual training session with the Titan on Monday when he suddenly collapsed on the ice.

The Titan medical team tried to revive him several times. He was transported to hospital where his death was confirmed.

“Jordan Boyd had had a complete medical evaluation prior to the camp and didn’t seem to have any medical problems that prevented him from participating,” says a statement from the team. “We are waiting for the hospital’s autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. We offer our deepest condolences to his loved ones.
