The Northern Nova United Falcons U-12B girls won silver medals in the Highland Soccer League final on Wednesday night after finishing the regular season in first place, with only one loss.
In the championship game the girls were tied with the CC Riders A team 1-1 after regulation time, with a goal by Eva Wornell. No goals were scored in the 20-minute overtime, forcing the game to be decided by penalty kicks. The Riders scored three to the Falcons’ two, giving Colchester County the win. Scoring for the Falcons were Emily MacKenzie and Lilly Langford.
The Falcons defeated the CC Riders B team 3-0 in the semifinal game on Monday. Goals were scored by Wornell and Victoria Dunn (2). Keeper KJ Emery earned the shutout.
Jillian Matlock finished the season tied for first place for top scorers in the league, with 11 goals during the season. Dunn and Jenna Reid tied for third place with nine goals each. Wornell scored five goals and Lauren MacLeod scored four goals, while two goals apiece were marked by KJ Emery, Emma Martin, Abbey Jones, MacKenzie and Maddie Jones. Single goals for the season went to Cassie Clarke, Abby Lou MacDonald and Sarah Higdon.
