ANTIGONISH - Opening the season at home, the St. F.X. X-Women rugby team were expected to drop their AUS rival Acadia Axewomen.
The X-Women were ranked No. 1 in the CIS going into the game, with Acadia ranked 10th. Rankings proved to mean little as Acadia went on to win 44-13.
St. F.X. opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a try by Danielle Robb. Just eight minutes later Acadia tied the match with Rachel Chapman scoring their first try.
Tanisha Campbell scored for St. F.X. to take the lead again, but Acadia's Emilie Chiasson scored a try before kicking the convert to take their first lead of the game in the 27th minute.
The last points in the game for St. F.X. were scored by Sabrina McDaid with a penalty goal in the 31st minute. Rachel Chapman rounded out the scoring in the first half for Acadia to give them a 17-13 lead at halftime.
In the second half Acadia was the lone team to score with trys by Maddie MacKenzie (2), Janna Slevinsky, Rily Kitchin and Kate Amirault. Shannon White kicked one convert.
