Pictou County kicks off three games in three days with big win
NEW GLASGOW – To put it simply, little, if anything, went wrong for the Weeks Crushers last night.
After defeating the CIBC Wood Gundy Lumberjacks 5-2 on Sunday they won a lopsided affair at home 10-0 last night. Garrett Holmes led the team with two goals and three points.
“We didn’t have our best game on Sunday either, but we all played great tonight,” said Holmes. “We were crisp right from warmup right through. I wouldn’t say it was a shock, but it was definitely nice that we could do that.”
With multiple chances to score a third goal in the second and third periods, he hoped he might get his first career hat trick, but it wasn’t meant to be.
“Like crazy (I was trying to score the third goal), it would’ve been pretty nice, but I’ll take what I can get and it’s just good that we got the two points to be honest,” said Holmes.
He opened the scoring in the first period. Jordan McInnis and Nick Parker also scored for the Crushers to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period Holmes, Parsons, Evan Carmody and Regan Spears scored for Pictou County, while David Stephens, McInnis and Brett Doiron rounded out the scoring in the third.
Devan Tremblay won his first regular season game between the pipes, turning aside 18 shots in the win.
Tonight the Weeks Crushers travel to Campbellton before playing Saturday in Miramichi. Although it’s hard to find mistakes in a 10-0 win, Holmes said there’s always work to do, but to see their team playing well early is a good sign.
“We feel good and we come out in a game like that and that’s only four games (in),” he said. “I can’t wait to see what we can do come playoff time and halfway through the season is going to be great.”
