Sunday night, in Trenton, the Pictou County Scotians spotted the Eastern Shore Junior Mariners a 1-0 lead, after twenty minutes, then roared back with four unanswered goals to grab their first win of the season. The win now has all NSHJL teams with at least one win. The East Hants Penguins (3-0-0-0) and Sackville Blazers (2-0-0-0) are the only two undefeated teams.
Mariner captain Tim Mannette, with the only goal of the opening period, had the visitors up 1-0 heading into the first intermission. Jon Fogolin and Noah Popwell picked up the assists.
Shots in the period favoured the Mariners at 16-12.
In the second the teams played a wide open period with the Mariners holding the edge on the shot clock again at 22-19 but it was the Scotians doing the scoring. First, Craig Matheson from Ryan Langille and Jeremy Owens then Lucas Eshelman, a power play goal, from Steven MacNeil and Brandon Verge. .
After forty minutes the Scotians held a slim 2-1 on the score clock edge but the Mariners had control of the shot clock at 38-31.
Almost three minutes into the third Jaret Collins increased the Scotians lead to 3-1 from Tim Robertson and Jake Rankin before Eshelman notched his second of the night giving the Scotians a 4-1 lead. Brad MacEachern and Brandon Verge picked up the assists.
Ben Goss picked up the win for the Scotians handling 50 of 51 shots while Mariner goaltender Tyler Boudreau faced 42 shots.
