TRENTON - The North Nova Gryphons boy’s hockey team started their season off on the right foot, winning their home opener 7-4 over the SAERC Saints on Friday night a the Trenton Rink.
Leading the scoring for the Gryphons with four goals (including a natural hat trick) was Jacob Pentz.
Cody Haas opened the scoring early in the first and scored in an empty net to finish the third. Kale Mason rounded off the scoring.
Assists went to Tyler Baird, Kirklin Murray, Darryl Wheadon, John David Coffin, Luke Grant, and Chris Brooker.
On Saturday evening, the Gryphons travelled to Westville to meet the Northumberland Nighthawks in their home opener. While there was no scoring in the first period, the floodgates opened in the second frame. NRHS scored four unanswered goals before NNEC answered with two to finish the period.
NNEC opened the third with a goal to get within one but NRHS scored two more to take the game 6-3. Scoring for North Nova were Darryl Wheadon with two and Luke Grant with the single tally.
NRHS scorers were Jethro Gunn, Noah Chisholm, Jordan Wheeler, Morgan Peters, Brandon Bell and Ben Morrissey.
North Nova has a busy schedule next weekend as they travel to Antigonish on Thursday to take on the JH GIllis Royals at 7 p.m., host Hants East on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Trenton Rink, and travel to Lantz on Saturday for the second game of a home-and-home against Hants East at 6 p.m.
