New Glasgow Junior High School won the Northumberland Region Junior Boys Championship banner on Wednesday at St. FX University in Antigonish.
The boys team, which consisted of five runners – Matthew Chediac (first place), Oliver Schnare (second place), Jake Martin (fifth place), Isaac MacDonald (ninth place) and Mark Atwood (42nd place) – placed first overall.
Four girls from the school competed in the races. Madison Bond (29th) and Victoria Straub (35th) competed for the junior girls in a field of 99 girls. Kaitlin Kelly and Katelyn Dunn competed in the intermediate girls division, coming in 12th and 15th places respectively.
Chediac, Schnare, Martin, MacDonald, Kelly and Dunn will represent NGJHS at the 2013-2014 NSSAF Provincial Cross Country Championships in New Minas on Oct. 28.
