NEW GLASGOW – They didn’t expect it, but the Weeks Crushers welcomed the surprise of winning 12-4 over the Campbellton Tigers tonight at the Wellness Centre.
John Mullally led the Crushers with two goals and five points, while Brandon Thibeau made 21 saves to get the victory in goal.
Devon Earle led the Tigers with a goal and two points, while Miquel Sullivan played the majority of the game for Campbellton, allowing seven goals on 33 shots. Ian Delange allowed five on 18 shots during part of the first and second periods.
Mullally opened the scoring for the Crushers 1:49 into the game before Mitchell Shewfelt’s goal at 3:25 to give the Crushers some insurance.
At 4:15 Olivier Gendron cut the lead in half with the Tigers first goal.
Mullally increased the lead to two against at 8:24, which was enough to have Sullivan pulled from the Tigers goal.
At 15:18 Jordan McInnis put the puck past Delange for the first time, making it look like the Crushers were in control up 4-1, but just 28 seconds later Devon Earle broke in on goal snapping the puck low glove side past Thibeau to cut into the lead again.
A late goal with 28 seconds remaining in the first by Tyler Johnson on the power play put the lead at one goal again, but that was as close as Campbellton would get for the remainder of the game.
In the second the Crushers scored five goals to open up a major lead. Brandon Parsons, McInnis, Deruelle, Tyler Doyle and Regan Spears all tallied for Pictou County as they outshot Campbellton 17-6 in the period.
The third period saw three goals with Garrett Holmes, Doyle and McInnis (third of the night) all chipping in for the Crushers. Brendan Blanchette scored the lone goal for the Tigers in the period on the power play.
The win kicks of the Crushers three games in three days as they visit Woodstock on Friday night and Amherst for the first time this season on Saturday.
In other league action on Thursday night the Dieppe Commandos defeated the Truro Bearcats 4-2.
