Lucas Canning draws attention from the Antigonish Bulldogs defence in their 6-3 win on Sunday.
The Pictou County atom AAA Crushers opened the regular season this weekend with a split.
On Saturday, the Crushers travelled to the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro, losing 5-1. The Bearcats scored a number of quick goals to take an early lead over the Crushers, but they held the Bearcats in the third with Lucas Canning being the lone goal scorer for the Crushers. Assists came from Matthew Carson and Thomas Schnare. Tyler Matchem was between the pipes.
On Sunday, the Crushers hosted the Antigonish Bulldogs at home, picking up a 6-3 victory.
Ryan Green opened the scoring early in the first period with an assist from Canning. Kiefer Avery followed suit with goal late in the first with assist going to Ian Horton and Landon Sim.
The Bulldogs answered with three goals in the second.
Early in the third, Sim scored a power play goal to tie it up with assists from MacLean Tobin and Green. Carson delivered an unassisted goal to put the Crushers in the lead and Sim scored two empty-net goals for a hat trick. Thomas Gariepy got the win in the net.
The Crushers host Acadia this Saturday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
