The Pictou County atom AA Crushers hosted the Western Valley Spartans in regular season action at the Wellness Centre over the weekend, losing both games of the doubleheader.
Ian Reynolds opened the scoring for the Crushers early in the first period on Saturday, with assists by Tanner Steele and Brent Chapman. The Spartans responded a few minutes later with a goal.
In the second period, Western Valley had four unanswered goals. Despite being down 5-1 going into the third, the Crushers didn’t give up. Cale MacLaughlin, Cale Archibald, and Cameron MacKinnon put the puck in the net in the third period, with assists going to Joseph Mason, Cameron Young, Myles Farnsworth and Gabe Paquet. Western Valley added another in the third to seal the win for the visitors with a final score of 6-4.
The teams met again the next morning, with Western Valley winning 4-0. The Crushers were plagued with penalties during the game. Jacob Fraser and Michael Law shared the games between the pipes.
The atom AA Crushers will go up against the Bulldogs in Antigonish this weekend.
