TRENTON - The North Nova Gryphons boy’s hockey team opened their week on the road with a 6-0 victory against SAERC before falling 4-3 at home on Friday against CEC.
On Wednesday in Port Hawkesbury Lukas MacDonald earned the shutout, while Chris Brooker (2) Cody Hass (2), Darryl Wheadon and Luke Grant scored for North Nova.
On Friday night at the Trenton Arena, the Gryphons hosted the CEC Cougars in their first meeting of the season. While there was no scoring in the first frame, the floodgates opened in the middle period with CEC opening a two goal lead before Wheadon got the Gryphons on the board. CEC scored again before Jacob Pentz rounded off the second period scoring. CEC opened the third with a goal, quickly followed by a Tyler Baird power play goal, but even with goaltender Joel MacLean pulled in the dying minutes, the Gryphons were unable to tie the game and lost 4-3.
NNEC does not have a home game next weekend as they are participating in the Dr. JH Gillis Tournament in Antigonish starting Oct. 31. The next home game is Nov. 8 at 8:30 p.m. at the Trenton Arena against Dalbrae Academy.
