New Glasgow Junior High wins silver in junior boys event
The New Glasgow Junior High boy’s cross-country team was the lone Pictou County squad to medal as a team at the NSSAF cross-country provincials held Monday in New Minas.
Their junior boy’s team of Matthew Chediac (15:32), Oliver Schnare (15:39), Jake Martin (16:11), Isaac MacDonald (16:49) and Mark Atwood (21:06) had three boys finish in the top 20 of the 4k event.
Also finishing in the top 50 runners in the junior boy’s event were Tyler Green of Highland Consolidated in sixth (15:13) and Raymond Simpson of East Pictou Middle School in eighth (15:19).
In the junior girl’s 3k event Breanna Sandluck of East Pictou was the lone county runner to finish in the top 50, with a time of 11:42 in seventh place.
Lauren Quann of Pictou Academy was the top county finisher in the intermediate girl’s 4k event in eighth (16:56).
Gen Lemieux of East Pictou finished 28th (18:10), Kaitlin Kelly of NGJH finished 39th (18:49), Emili Wilson of NNEC finished in 42nd (19:08), Amelia English of Pictou Academy finished 50th (19:59), Payton Ruiz of Pictou Academy finished 52nd (20:04) and Katelyn Dunn of NGJH finished 55th (20:16) to round out the top Pictou County runners in the intermediate girl’s event.
Dylan Hiltz of NRHS and Peter Corbin of Thorburn Consolidated were the only county runners to finish in the top 50 in the intermediate boys 5k event. Hiltz finished fifth (18:45), while Corbin finished 27th (20:23).
The North Nova senior girl’s team finished fourth overall in their 5k event. The team was made up of Jessica Zentner (10th – 22:32), Caitlin Sandluck (26th – 23:56), Maria Leblanc (28th – 24:01), Naomi Zentner (29th – 24:06), Madeline MacDonald (65th – 26:35), Robin MacDonald (66th – 26:36) and Sarah Munroe (78th – 27:58).
In the senior boy’s 7k race there were only five county runners. Scott Langille of North Nova had the best time at 28:55, good enough for 38th place.
From Northumberland there were four runners: Johnny Skinner (69th – 31:25), Logan Coulet (75th – 32:08), James Malcolm (87th – 35:49) and Gabriel Ribeiro (98th – 40:57).
