Pictou County off to Amherst tomorrow night
NEW GLASGOW – The Pictou County Weeks Crushers took over top spot in the MHL Thursday night with a 6-0 victory over the CIBC Wood Gundy Lumberjacks.
They also pushed their win streak to seven games as they head into their game against the rival Amherst Ramblers on Saturday.
Evan Carmody opened the scoring for the Crushers 7:09 into the first period, taking a Nick Parker pass in the slot and beating Lumberjacks goaltender Billy Clarke up top.
That was the lone goal in a tight period that ended with the Crushers leading in the shots department 11-10.
In the second Mitchell Deruelle scored on the power play, picking the corner glove side on Clarke to give Pictou County a 2-0 lead 9:41 into the frame.
Stephen MacInnis added another insurance marker with 2:12 remaining in the second, with an assist to Weeks Major Midgets forward Lane Cormier and Mitchell Shewfelt.

The Crushers took their three-goal lead into the final period.
Regan Spears was the first to score for the Crushers in the third as they capitalized on their sceond power play in as many attempts.
Garrett Lambke and Nick Parker added insurance markers for Pictou County who went on to win 6-0.
Devan Tremblay picked up his second shutout of the season, making 31 saves in the win.
Billy Clarke made 34 saves in the loss for Bridgewater.
