NEW GLASGOW - The Anchor Motors peewee AA Crushers split a pair of league games on the weekend, losing 7-1 to Western Valley and defeating Antigonish 1-0.

Saturday against the Western Valley Spartans, Lucas Leblanc had the lone Crushers goal with assists to Spencer Murray and Kyle Reim. Cody MacDougall was in goal.

On Sunday, the Crushers hosted the Antigonish Bulldogs for their first meeting of the season. The Crushers seemed to get their feet moving early and scored sive minutes into the first period as Jayden Hatchard found the back of the net. Reim and Scott Long drew the assists. The teams traded scoring chances the rest of the way, but both goalies were up to the task.

Vaughn MacEachern came up big on several occasions when the Crushers found themselves in penalty trouble, twice killing a five-on-three power play. His outstanding goaltending earned him the team’s first shutout of the year.
