NEW GLASGOW - Tuesday afternoon was a big day for the North Nova girl’s basketball team.

In a strong defensive battle, the Gryphons almost pulled out a win over longtime powerhouse, the CEC Cougars. Intense defense and strong rebounding kept it close with the first half ending 22-22.

The Cougars surged ahead in the third to take a ten-point lead at the end of the quarter. In the fourth, the Gryphons dominated defensively and on the boards to hold the Cougars to six points with only one basket coming from the floor in the quarter for the Cougars.

Unfortunately, the Gryphons fell six points short to lose 49-43. Rookie Kendra MacKinnon led the scoring with 24 points.

The Gryphons are off to the Bluefield High tournament in P.E.I. this weekend.
