Pictou County defeats Amherst for third time this season
NEW GLASGOW – Jordan McInnis was the first and lone shooter to score in the shootout Thursday night, lifting the Weeks Crushers to a 4-3 victory over the Amherst Ramblers.
Former Crushers forward Bruce Hornbrook shot second, trying to score five-hole like McInnis, but Brandon Thibeau turned him aside.
Evan Carmody shot next for the Crushers, but put it just over the crossbar on Richard Tingley’s glove side.
Brett Walsh tied to get Thibeau to cheat to his left, as he made a move back to Thibeau’s left, but he stayed with him the whole way.
Nick Parker was turned aside by Tingley, meaning Daniel Walsh had to score or the game was over.
Thibeau didn’t have to do much as Walsh put it wide to give Pictou County their third win over the Ramblers this season.
Hornbrook opened the scoring in regulation 14:57 into the first period, just seconds after the Ramblers killed off their first penalty of the game.
It wasn’t until 5:29 into the second period that Mitchell Deruelle picked the top corner blocker-side on Tingley to tie the game 1-1.
With just under three minutes remaining in the period Parker had a great individual effort shorthanded to beat the Ramblers to the puck in front of the Crushers bench. Running out of space and time he through the puck on net and it went under Tingley’s arm short side to give Pictou County a 2-1 lead through two periods.

Parker scored his second of the game just 1:12 into the third period, one-timing a pass by J.P. Harvey off the crossbar and in.
Just two minutes later John Deacon scored to cut the lead to one again.
With 45 seconds left the former Crusher struck again, scoring with Tingley pulled to send the game to overtime.
The Crushers top line of Harvey, Deruelle and Parker combined for three goals and seven points in the game.
Thibeau made 31 saves in the win, while Tingley turned aside 41.
Pictou County is off for the weekend and don’t play again until next Thursday at home against the Valley Wildcats.
