NEW GLASGOW – The North Nova Gryphons boy’s hockey team opened their weekend with a 9-4 victory over Amherst before coming up short 3-2 to Dalbrae.

Friday night at home the Gryphons hosted the Amherst Vikings for the first time this year, scoring early and often en route to their 9-4 victory.

Scorers for North Nova were: Luke Grant (2), Cody Haas, Colin Holmes, Ethan Snell, Chris Brooker, Connor MacDougall, Darryl Wheadon and Tyler Baird. Assists went to Baird (2), Ryan Chabassol (2), Holmes, Brooker, Grant, Haas, Snell, Craig Murray, Kirklin Murray and Carson Dunbar. Lukas MacDonald picked up the win.

On Sunday the Gryphons travelled to Port Hood to take on the Dalbrae Dragons. A pair of power play goals made the difference as NNEC fell 3-2.

Dunbar, assisted by Chris Brooker, got the NNEC squad on the board in the first frame and Dalbrae opened the second period with a power play goal. The score remained deadlocked at one each until Darryl Wheadon scored an unassisted shorthanded goal with three minutes remaining.

Joel MacLean was between the pipes for the Gryphons.

Their next game is Friday night in Amherst, while their next home game is Dec. 20 at the Trenton Arena against the Dr. JH Gillis Royals.
