Coach Anne Armstrong points to the team’s passing and rebounding, both offensive and defensive, as the qualities that kept them strong.
“I’m really excited with how our team played,” she said, adding that she was pleased to have the support of fans with full bleachers during the 2 p.m. game.
Cierra Baxter scored all nine points for Sackville in the first period, but it wasn’t enough to give them a lead with North Nova’s Kendra McKinnon racking up 11 and Jamie McCarron bringing home seven points. NNEC’s Natalie Addison and Meredith Hynes each got one point as well.
The second period was a little slower for North Nova, throwing 13 points on the scoreboard from Natalie Addison, Madison McGuire, Regan Keay and Kendra McKinnon.
Sackville kept their pace, adding another nine points.
North Nova went into halftime leading 33-18.
McKinnon, McCarron and Addison kept the scoring going into the second half, with shots from Jaya Sood, Hynes, McGuire and Keay as well.
They added another 32 points, against Sackville’s 11.
Although there wasn’t much for Sackville to pick at, Armstrong said they could still use improvement on defence and shot selection.
“Sackville played hard. They never give up.”
Armstrong said they’re expecting the rest of the tournament to be pretty competitive.
