NEW GLASGOW – With Sunday’s game cancelled against the Halifax McDonalds, the Weeks Major Midgets went into the Christmas break a little earlier than expected with a 7-1 victory over the Cape Breton West Islanders.
Evan MacLennan opened the scoring for Weeks after Donovan Rehill’s power play goal just 1:52 into the first period for Cape Breton.
Liam Giffen and Mark Vokey scored to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
In the second goals by Lane Cormier, Cody Johnston (2) and Vokey gave the Pictou County squad their six-goal lead, which they held until the end of regulation.
Luke Melanson made 38 saves in the win. Levi Denny allowed five goals on 22 shots, while Daniel Liengme allowed two on 19 shots.
