Monday the Thorburn Goldenhawks peewee rec team was one of three teams from their organization to win gold at the 38th annual Westville Christmas Tournament.

The team won their first game in the tournament against Westville 8-5.

Next they played the Pictou County Subway Selects, losing 5-1.

The Goldenhawks had to play in a crossover game and win to get in the championship game, but they beat Westville 8-3 in the elimination game to move on.

In the final the Goldenhawks and the Selects battled goal-for-goal, until the Goldenhawks edged the Selects with a goal.

With under a minute to play the Selects pulled their goalie to put an extra skater on the ice, but the Goldenhawks held them off and won the gold with a 4-3 victory.
