MONCTON – The Pictou County peewee AA Subway Selects advanced to the semifinals at the Dairy Queen Female Hockey Tournament this weekend in the Moncton area after finishing in third place in the round-robin with a 2-1 record.
Their semifinal on Sunday morning was a rematch against the TASA Ducks, which took seven shooters in the shootout to decide the 1-0 game. Victoria Dunn was rewarded for her outstanding effort in goal with player of the game honours.
The Selects’ first game of the tournament was a tight-checking contest against the Capital District Cyclones, with Pictou County scoring two goals in the first period and adding a third in the second period. Capital District broke the shutout late in the third for a 3-1. Eva Wornell scored two, with one assisted by Madison Robertson. MacKenzie Ells scored the final goal, unassisted. Wornell was named player of the game.
They played the Halifax Hawks in their second game of the tournament, skating to a 4-0 win. Goals were scored by: KJ Emery, Jenna Hickey, Shalyn Bona and Jenna Reid. Assists were recorded by: Garyn Purvis, Cassie Clarke, Hickey, Emery, Robertson and Wornell. Dunn picked up the shutout, while Hickey was named player of the game.
In their final round-robin game they lost 4-0 to the TASA Ducks, with KJ Emery being named the player of the game.
