The Pictou County atom AA Subway Selects pose with their banner and medals after winning their third straight tournament of the 2013-14 season.
The Pictou County female atom AA Subway Selects stood by the motto on their door, "Surrender the Me, for the We," to win the 9th Annual DQ Female Hockey tournament in Moncton.
They opened the tournament with a 4-0 victory over the East Prince Wildcats.
Game MVP Allie Hood scored the first and last goals, unassisted. Alyssa Fitt scored on a deflection pass from Keighan DeCoff then Ashley MacDonald rounded out the scoring on a pass from Olivia Fitt.
In the afternoon the Selects tied River Valley 3-3. They held a 2-0 lead with Hayley Nichol scoring from Hood, and Alyssa Fitt from Nichol.
Down 3-2 Jaylene Langille scored late in the third to salvage the tie. DeCoff's strong play earned her the game MVP honours.
The Selects then defeated the Fredericton Furries 9-0 to close out the round-robin. Ashley MacDonald earned game MVP with her three goals, while linemate DeCoff had two goals and an assist.
Lani Coolen had a goal and two assists, Langille a goal and an assist, with Nichol and Hood rounded out the scoring with single tallies. Hayley Burke, Taylor Long, Abigale MacKenzie and Alyssa Fitt had helpers.
In the crossover game against TASA Ducks Selects goalie Morgan Fitzpatrick earned her third shutout of the tournament in style by earning game MVP while making several brilliant saves. Hood scored unassisted in the first, the lone goal of the game.
Pictou County met River Valley once again in the final.
After falling behind early, the Selects tied it on a goal from DeCoff. Hood then put the Selects ahead, followed by an insurance marker from Long (game MVP) to seal the win and make the final 3-1.
