If the Northumberland Nighthawks play like they did Friday, they will do well Saturday.

The Danny Dorrington Memorial Tournament is happening this weekend in Westville.

That’s according to Nighthawks Coach Kenny Lockhart whose team from NRHS is playing in the eighth annual Danny Dorrington Tournament.

The Nighthawks squared off against Dalbrae yesterday morning in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

“We played very well,” said Lockhart. “We had a game plan and we stuck to it and everyone came out hard.”

He said players of note in that game was forward Dallas MacDonald of Pictou and goalie Brennan Snell of Westville.

The players of the game went to Ben Morrissey for NRHS and Connor Jordan for Dalbrae.

There are eight teams participating in the tournament which started Friday morning and finishes on Sunday with the championship.

The tournament is named after Danny Dorrington, a fun loving man who took hockey seriously as both a player and promoter of the sport. Lockhart noted he had the opportunity to play with Dorrington’s grandsons.

“I remember Danny and he was a great guy, devoted to the sport,” he said.

He’s hoping the Nighthawks will play this year’s tournament with Dorrington’s hard work in mind.

“If we can play as great as the guy that Danny was, we’ll do just fine.”

Teams participating are: Kings-Edgehill, North Nova, Dalbrae, North East Kings, Par-En-Bas, Northumberland, Dartmouth and J.H. Gillis.
